STORYTELLING PLATFORM FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Yes. All submissions are reviewed in line with our ethical framework guidelines to help ensure this remains a respectful and safe space for everyone.

Stories go through an initial automated review. Any story flagged, either by the system or by a user, is escalated to a human reviewer for further assessment. In addition, anyone using the platform can flag a story if they believe it violates our guidelines.  Final decisions are made at the discretion of The Stories of Us and its partner organizations.

Stories will not be published or will be removed if they include harmful, abusive, or discriminatory content, violate someone’s privacy, or are not shared in good faith. Our goal is not to filter out difficult or honest experiences, but to maintain a space where people can share openly without causing harm to others.

  • Upon your consent, stories are shared publicly as part of a collective narrative. Over time, as more stories are contributed, we look across them to identify common themes and patterns. These insights can help partners, community organizations, and leaders better understand what people are going through, and make more informed decisions about programs, services, and resources.

  • Participation is always voluntary, and storytellers have control over what they choose to share. We only ask for a first name, the first initial of your last name, and your email address so we can contact you once your story is ready. Personal details beyond this are not required, and any optional demographic information is kept separate from identifying information.

We are committed to clear, informed consent and to protecting participants’ information. Our goal is to create a space where people feel safe, respected, and in control of their own story.

  • Remento is our technology partner supporting voice recording and transcription.

When you share a story, Remento processes your audio to generate a written version of your story. This means they have access to the content you choose to share for the purpose of providing that service. They do not control how stories are presented, used, or shared on The Stories of Us platform.

The Stories of Us is responsible for the overall experience such as how stories are guided, how they are shared, and how they contribute to a broader understanding of lived experience. We work with partners like Remento under clear agreements to ensure that stories are handled responsibly, with consent, and in alignment with our ethical framework.

  • We partner with organizations that are interested in elevating the voices and lived experiences of the communities they serve.

Partners host storytelling experiences through a lens that reflects their work and civic life - whether focused on community, youth, aging, health, economic opportunity and beyond. In doing so, they invite their networks to contribute stories that become part of a broader, shared civic understanding.

If your organization is interested in becoming a partner, we’d love to hear from you. Please reach out to us at hello@thestoriesofus.org to start a conversation.

An exhibition for everyone.

We are our stories. The stories we are told. The stories we tell. The Stories of Us sculpture exhibitions invite you to discover our shared past; understand our shared present; and reimagine how we can make equality and solidarity a reality in our future, together.

These are the stories of us - our past, present and future.
